Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) is looking for a part time (36 hours per week) Food Service Assistant (FSA) in the cafeteria. WMHI is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents and adults.
State of Wisconsin benefits for part time employees, including vacation and additional benefits, will be prorated based on amount of hours worked and includes paid time off and an exceptional retirement plan.
A $2000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years; who must stay with WMHI until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1,000 upon hire and $1,000 after completing probation.
The FSA2 (Cafeteria) serves quantity foods, cafeteria style, for approximately 200 people including 85 to 100 modified diets. Assembles trays and nourishments for patients; monitors sanitation and safety; and upholds the security in cafeteria areas.
- Part Time (72 hours per pay period): Scheduled as four to eight hour shifts between (6:00 am and 6:30 pm) Monday through Friday and every other weekend. One scheduled day off every other Monday and every other Wednesday. Hours will include some split shifts, plus overtime as needed.
The starting salary for a FSA2 (Cafeteria) is $15.50. The pay schedule/range is 03/09. A 12 month probationary period is required.
These positions are eligible for an additional $0.45 for hours worked between 6 pm to 6 am, and a weekend differential of $0.60 for hours worked between midnight Friday to midnight Sunday.
Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB screen and other pre-employment health assessments prior to their start date.
These positions have physical requirements which may include but are not limited to lifting up to 30 lbs. in the cafeteria , bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling, stooping, standing, sitting and working on feet for extended periods of time. Applicants may be required to pass a physical evaluation to assess these requirements.
Employees are required to provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by their start date. Exceptions will be granted to those who obtain an approved medical or religious accommodation or those who provide documentation requiring a delay in receiving the vaccine.
This position requires the following:
- Ability to work scheduled hours as needed, which may include weekends, holidays, early morning or early evenings, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Training and/or experience using a computer to enter data.
In addition, well-qualified candidates will have:
- Knowledge of basic sanitation, hand washing and safety standards in a food service environment.
- Customer service experience.
- Previous food service or production experience.
- ServSafe (or equivalent food service certification).
- Experience working cooperatively as part of a team.
