Community Colleague
Job description
The Carriage House, recognized as a leader by Clubhouse International, is an Accredited Clubhouse Program seeking a dedicated, fun, and energetic person to join our community. We provide non-traditional psycho-social rehabilitation for adults with serious mental illnesses in a unique setting. Those seeking our help are known as members because they are volunteers, who are not only seeking assistance for themselves, but also use their own talents and abilities to assist others. We do not conduct therapy sessions or psycho-educational groups, but instead, operate a Work-ordered Day program where members have the opportunity to maximize their strengths in the service of others. This holistic strength-based approach is supported by research as one of the most effective models of recovery for people diagnosed with mental illness. Staff are asked to participate as a colleague on a team of adults who are helping each other in recovery, as opposed to traditional case manager jobs with caseloads and billing requirements.
General responsibilities include:
- Engaging clubhouse members in the work of the clubhouse to build self-esteem and social skills.
- Assisting members to become more independent in the community through employment, education, recreation, and advocacy programs.
- Using social skills to resolve disputes and de-escalate tensions that may arise between members.
- Developing genuine collegial relationships within the clubhouse community while advocating for change to reduce stigma in the broader society.
