Pay Grade: Salaried, $49,920 – $56,160 a year

SUMMARY: The Community Health Initiatives Manager is responsible for Brown Hope’s Healing Initiatives program, which creates and supports emerging and critical response programs that advance Brown Hope’s mission. As the first Healing Initiatives Manager for our growing nonprofit, this position is key to helping Brown Hope scale its unique, healing-focused theory of change. This role will coordinate across various teams and stakeholders, manage the planning and execution of new initiatives, and foster a culture of learning and innovation throughout the organization.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT (65%)
Proactively collaborate with the Chief Impact Officer to develop realistic strategic goals for Healing Initiatives and execute on identified goals within a reasonable timeline.
- Design and manage diverse and complex projects that are assigned by the Chief Impact Officer or CEO.
- Create well-documented project management plans for all assigned projects by identifying key issues, developing potential solutions, and vetting a plan of action.
- Ensure the implementation of projects by taking initiative to complete project tasks, collaborating with other staff members, volunteers, and external stakeholders as appropriate, regularly tracking project budget changes and providing financial reports to the CIO.
- Look for, recommend, and develop partnerships with local nonprofits, government agencies, community leaders, and relevant stakeholders that strategically advance Healing Initiatives’ projects and overall program goals.
- Ensure accountability on project management plans and overall program outcomes through periodic review, and report on updates, learnings, and recommendations to the CIO.
INTERNAL LEARNING AND CULTURE (25%)
- Be articulate in the mission, values, and outcomes of the Healing Initiatives program.
- As assigned, research and identify trends in current events, public health policy, and research that have potential to support the strategic growth of the organization and report these trends to organizational leadership.
- Foster a culture of learning and innovation within the organization by assisting in creation and promotion of practices and trainings related to healing, trauma, and recovery for Brown Hope staff and volunteers.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES (10%)
- Provide the Chief Impact Officer with ongoing reports on department goals progress and plans, on at least a monthly basis.
- Maintain confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally charged information.
- Be articulate, decisive, and able to multitask, manage time, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Impact Officer or CEO.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- 4+ years of nonprofit or government program management experience
- Understanding of and passion for supporting Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities, including historic and contemporary
- Ability to work in a high stress, fast paced environment and able to troubleshoot quickly
- A flexible problem solver, good at striking the balance between innovation and continuity, deliberation and action, independence and collaboration
- Ability to work independently and with minimal direction, showing initiative, creativity, self-discipline, effective time and project management skills
- Knowledge of trauma informed care models
- Experience with program research and evaluation
- Be a culturally competent leader: eager to learn, open to diversity, a good listener, and capable of working well with people from different backgrounds and identities
- Significant experience in grant writing and management
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, including excellent oral, written and listening communication
- Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills.
- Ability to create, monitor, and adhere to a fiscally responsible budget.
- Cooperative and collaborative team member. Ability to communicate in a professional and respectful manner with all clients, co-workers, Board Members, stakeholders, community members, public officials, and other business partners
- Experienced and competent in online tools for remote team work, communication, and documentation (particularly G Suite, Zoom, Slack)
Work is usually performed with a flexible remote policy, with an expectation of working within Brown Hope’s office once a week and also when assigned by organizational leadership. Work is oriented to community service and subject to constant work interruptions. Position requires the employee to regularly facilitate meetings and deliver presentations to community members, and other business partners, in both small and large groups. Employees may work under the stress of continual contact from clients, community members, co-workers and business partners, and the pressure to meet deadlines. Requires flexible work schedule and may be required to work evenings and weekends. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Position may require the ability to travel regionally for work activities.
