Job Description:
Yuba College is seeking an equity-minded, dynamic, collaborative, and innovative leader to serve as Director of Public Safety.

BASIC FUNCTION: Under the administrative direction of the Vice President or designee, administers classes, programs and student services offered by Public Safety: Law Enforcement Academy; Fire Academy; EMT; Administration of Justice and Fire Technology. Develops course schedules and supervises instructional and classified staff to ensure educational objectives are met; performs related work as required.

Essential Duties Summary:
DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

Supervises academic and classified personnel in Public Safety to ensure that educational objectives are met. Projects staffing needs; supervisory duties include assigning and reviewing work; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; selecting new employees; acting on employee problems and recommending employee disciplinary action and discharge as appropriate. Reviews the work of subordinates for effectiveness and completeness; makes recommendations and offers advice and assistance as needed.
Identifies, develops, evaluates and implements program goals, objectives and policies, as well as Public Safety and courses; revises and expands the curriculum as necessary to meet the needs of the community.
Prepares the Public Safety schedule of classes; provides teaching schedules, loads and room schedules for both day and evening classes; recommends teaching assignment; prepares and revises course outlines, new course proposals and educational programs; revises College catalog information related to Public Safety.
Develop and publicize an annual training schedule to be distributed to district Public Safety agencies.
Submit course certifications for all P.O.S.T. and Public Safety classes. All documentation required by State or regional agencies is handled by the Director. This involves course announcements, roster verifications, evaluations, curriculum outlines as well as other paperwork required for student certification.
Develops, evaluates and staffs all outreach programs and courses offered by Public Safety.
Receive requests from Public Safety agencies and develop curriculum that meets State, regional and college standards.
Orients new staff to their duties and obligations.
Develops and oversees the maintenance of District Public Safety facilities and resources.
Prepares and administers a comprehensive budget for Public Safety. Monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with budget allocations for programs and projects and assists in preparing grant proposals and applications for additional funding. Identifies and evaluates grant opportunities.
Reviews and approves textbook and supply orders, travel requests, invoices and requisitions.
Maintains contact and communication with all segments of the Criminal Justice System, the Fire Science Program, the Hazardous Materials, and the EMT Program, to keep abreast of current requirements, trends, policies and procedures; coordinates activities and programming with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, the California Board of Corrections, the California State Fire Marshals Office.
Prepares and submits reports as required by administration and other agencies.
Teaches classes as assigned.
Facilitates meeting of the Public Safety Division advisory committees; attend administrative meetings as required.
Assists with the marketing and advertising of Public Safety courses; receives and responds to inquiries regarding programs and procedures.
Attend designated Public Safety agency, training officer, advisory committee, regional and State meetings.
Participate in the recruitment of students to District programs. Develop outreach and support services to attract underrepresented students to the Public Safety program.
Register students at training sites and return registration materials to Admissions and Records Office.
Secure off-campus facilities as needed to deliver instruction.
Handle and administer State mandated examinations.
Provide guidance for instructors and administration at the Campuses and Centers regarding the delivery of certified courses.
Meet with the Dean on a regular basis to plan and evaluate program coordination and activities.
Initiates and maintains positive relationships with other departments and members of the College community.
Serves on a variety of District committees as requested.
Performs related work as required.

Required Qualifications: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate, by the final filing date, must possess the minimum qualifications for Educational Administrators at California Community Colleges: (All degrees and units used to satisfy minimum qualifications must be from accredited institutions.)

1. Possession of a Masters degree; AND

2. One year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrators administrative assignment; AND

3. POST requires that this position complete the POST Academy Directors Course within 1 year of appointment; AND

4. Shall have sworn, full-time, first-level supervisory (sergeant or above) experience.

FOREIGN TRANSCRIPTS:

Salary Range: $96,265 - $111,673 per year

Benefits Information: BENEFITS/SALARY:
The District offers a comprehensive benefit package for employees and dependents, for positions whose FTE is .60 or higher, valued at over $24,273 annually with currently no out of pocket expenses to employees or dependents for medical premiums.

The package includes health, dental, vision, two (2) life insurance policies and an Employee Assistance program. Additional benefits include contributions to the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) which is integrated with Social Security OR the State Teachers Retirement System (STRS), 457/403b options, 22 vacation days, 3 Administrative days, 3 Non-duty days, 2 Floating Holidays, 12 sick days and 19 holidays.

In accordance to Board Policy, smoking is restricted in many areas of the Yuba Community College District. Woodland Community College is a tobacco free campus.
