JOB SUMMARY
Horizon has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Scientist I for molecular biology/viral production. The Scientist I position will perform primary tasks in an ISO 9001:2015 biology manufacturing laboratory in Lafayette, CO. Key responsibilities for this position include a wide array of duties related to the processing and preparation RNAi and Gene Editing products including molecular biology bench work, cloning, viral production, nucleic acid purification, collection replication, inventory control, and order packaging. The position will require the ability to learn and to troubleshoot various aspects of molecular biology including cloning and mammalian tissue culture.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fulfill molecular biology/viral production through clone picking, molecular cloning, viral pool generation and mammalian tissue culture processes.
- Applying working knowledge of DNA isolation, bacterial transformation, molecular cloning, glycerol stock generation and handling, and tissue culture.
- Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures, 5S standards, and EH&S regulations and policies.
- Uses resources effectively to ensure cost effective delivery. Contributes ideas and solutions that improve the way that the department works.
- Expanded independent proficiencies attained that impact multiple process segments. Training role for select manufacturing processes.
- Author SOP amendments.
- Participate in order status monitoring, CS/TS inquiries, and LIMS development.
- Conduct training for select manufacturing processes and provide guidance to coworkers for development and error prevention.
- Design, execute and complete all process assignments and SOPs with limited supervision.
- Develop and contribute to all manufacturing process efficiency improvement efforts.
- Works well with colleagues - maintaining effective professional working relationships with peers across disciplines.
REQUIRED CRITERIA & COMPETENCIES
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or similar life sciences degree
- 1-3 years of industry experience.
- Proficient in E. Coli bacterial transformation, DNA isolation, molecular techniques, or tissue culture in BSL2.
- Advanced analytical skills using Microsoft Excel, with proficient data entry and typing skills.
- Excellent time management skills and multi-tasking capabilities.
- Professional and clear communication skills, both written and verbal, teamwork is essential.
- ISO 9001 laboratory certification experience.
- Mammalian tissue culture.
COMPENSATION RANGE
62,000 to 78,000
This represents a reasonable estimate at the time of posting. Final compensation will be based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, knowledge/education, skills/abilities, internal equity, and budgetary considerations.
